ActiveCastanea sativa Mill. · Sweet chestnut

The variety is a form of chestnut selected in Austria intended for home gardening. An adult tree reaches a height of 7–10 meters with a crown width of 5–8 meters. It is characterized by regular bearing, with the first fruits appearing in the 2–3rd year after planting.
The fruits are medium to large in size, have a dark brown color, and a mild nutty flavor. A characteristic feature is the ease of peeling the pericarp from the fruit. The harvest ripens and falls starting in September; the fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, culinary use, and storage until February.
The plant is self-fertile, although yields may increase in the presence of pollinators. The variety is adapted to summer heat, but due to early bud break, it is sensitive to late spring frosts. Publications note susceptibility to chestnut blight, and young plants require protection.
