The variety is native to the island of Madeira, where its cultivation is concentrated primarily in inland areas, such as Curral das Freiras. The variety is used for food purposes to produce nuts.

The variety is late-maturing. The fruit ripening period occurs in November and December, which is why in local tradition it is also known by the name Do Tarde.
