Garfagnina is a traditional local variety that has been historically cultivated in the Garfagnana area. Genetic studies using SSR markers have confirmed that this genotype is identical to the Tosca variety.

In scientific literature, the variety is considered primarily as a genetic resource. Detailed agronomic and morphological characteristics of the plant and its fruits are absent in open publications.
