The variety is a local clone that emerged as a result of long-term selection in the northwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula. The trees are traditionally grown at altitudes from 300 to 600 meters above sea level. The variety is suitable for producing both fruit and timber.

The fruits are suitable for the production of glazed chestnuts due to their technological properties. The variety is included in the recommendations for forest plantations under the Protected Geographical Indication Castaña de Galicia, and its morphological traits are used by specialists for identification in germplasm collections.
