Variety description

The fruits of the variety have an asymmetric shape, a dark brown color with visible stripes and grooves, as well as a pointed apex and a long thin pubescent appendage. The hilum is characterized by a medium or large size with a stellate pattern. The number of fruits ranges from 70 to 100 pieces per 1 kg.
The variety matures at an average rate; harvesting usually falls at the beginning of October. Productivity is considered high, however, the variety is susceptible to severe infestation by ink disease, the fungus Septoria castanicola, and the chestnut gall wasp, which limits its widespread distribution.
The variety is autochthonous to the Piedmont region and is traditionally used for fresh consumption, including the preparation of roasted chestnuts. It is officially recognized as a genetic resource of the region and is included in the list of varieties whose fruits meet the requirements of the Castagna Cuneo IGP geographical indication.
