The variety is a local population (landrace) distributed primarily in the province of Cuneo. It is classified as a type close to the 'Marrone' group, which defines the high consumer characteristics of the harvest.

The fruits are characterized by a large size and are suitable for processing into glazed chestnuts. The genetic uniqueness of the variety has been confirmed by studies of the Piedmontese gene pool; however, standardized data on ripening periods, tree growth parameters, and disease resistance are absent in publications.
