The Frattona variety is the result of folk selection and represents part of the regional gene pool of the Italian Ceva and Tanaro valleys. The fruits are included in the list of products with the Protected Geographical Indication status Castagna Cuneo.
Plants of this variety are historically cultivated on mountain slopes in acidic soils rich in organic matter. Specific morphological parameters of the tree itself, such as height or detailed disease resistance, are not presented in publications.
