The variety is the result of folk selection and has been shaped for centuries in the Galicia region. The fruits are used fresh and for industrial processing, and the trees have traditionally been cultivated for the production of high-quality wood.

The variety is characterized as medium-late or late, with harvesting occurring from late October to early November. The nuts are medium-sized with an average weight of about 11 g and have a striped shell.

In traditional orchards, the trees were formed using specific pruning of several main branches to increase productivity. The variety is susceptible to common fungal diseases of the crop, such as chestnut blight and ink disease, and is also affected by the chestnut gall wasp.
