ActiveCastanea sativa Mill. · Sweet chestnut
PEDRO URQUIJO LANDALUCE
10 August 2026
The variety is an interspecific hybrid of European (Castanea sativa) and Japanese (Castanea crenata) chestnuts. The tree is characterized by low vigor and a crown that is approximately one-third smaller than that of vigorous hybrids. Vegetation and flowering begin early, which creates a risk of damage by spring frosts.
The fruits are large or very large, have high taste qualities, are sweet, and peel well. The variety shows some resistance to ink disease. It is a good pollinator for other varieties and is capable of partial self-pollination, but cross-pollination is recommended for stable yields.
