PANESCA is a local folk-selection variety of carob tree widespread on the Balearic Islands. The plant is an evergreen tree maintained in genetic collections of research institutes to prevent the loss of biological diversity.
The fruits of the variety are described as relatively short and straight, distinguished by less fleshiness compared to other varieties. The seeds are characterized by a small width. Traditional use of the fruits includes obtaining gum from the seeds and using the pulp for feed or food purposes.
