The MATALAFERA variety is a local Spanish carob genotype. The trees are characterized by relatively low growth vigor and a low requirement for pruning. The fruits of the variety have a straight shape, are relatively easy to detach during harvest, and contain fewer seeds compared to a number of other varieties.
This variety belongs to the early-maturing category and demonstrates high productivity, which makes it sought after for commercial plantings. Agronomic studies also note the variety's resistance to a number of carob diseases.
