The Rojal variety, also known as Rojal de Tarragona, is a tree with an upright crown. The flowering period requires about 55 days, with fruit ripening occurring in September-October. The variety is distinguished by early entry into bearing.
The fruits are large pods weighing about 18.9 g and 17–20 cm in length, featuring a reddish tint, a curved shape, and a smooth surface. Seeds account for 10–12% of the total pod mass, and the gum content in them reaches 54.1%.
The plant possesses resistance to the main diseases of the carob tree. The fruits are prone to natural abscission upon mechanical impact, which facilitates harvesting; however, in terms of total seed yield, the variety is inferior to some other representatives of the crop.
