The variety was developed at the Dobřenice breeding station in 1937 and shares a common origin with the 'Brunschvick' variety. In the late 1980s, the variety was almost lost, but it was later restored from recovered archival seed stocks.

The plant is used for technical purposes for the production of chicory coffee. The root crops are similar in shape to sugar beet, which allows them to be harvested using standard sugar beet machinery with minimal losses.
