The variety is the result of a spontaneous mutation of a clementine discovered in Spain. In scientific literature, it is mentioned alongside other Spanish mutations such as Arrufatina and Esbal.

The variety is classified as susceptible to a number of fungal diseases of citrus, including infections that cause premature fruit drop. Detailed standardized morphological descriptions of the plant are not available in open sources.
