The plant is a slow-growing shrub or small tree 1.5 to 3 meters in height. It belongs to the most cold-hardy citrus plants; in regions with cold climates, it is grown as a container plant.
The fruits are oval-shaped and 3–4 cm in size. A distinctive feature is the combination of sweet peel and sweet-and-sour pulp. Fruiting occurs in late winter, usually from December to February.
The purpose of the plant includes its use as an ornamental crop due to its fragrant flowering and the formation of fruits suitable for fresh consumption or culinary processing.
