The variety is a nucellar selection of the original Valencia tree that grew in the Chapman orchard in San Gabriel. In specialized citrus databases, it is classified as Chapman nucellar Valencia orange.

Under Riverside conditions, the fruit ripening period falls between March and July. The produce of this variety, like other members of the Valencia group, is suitable for fresh consumption and juice production.
