The SHAMOUTI variety (synonyms Jaffa, Palestine Jaffa) originated as a random branch mutation in the mid-19th century. The fruits are medium to large in size, oval or ellipsoid in shape, with a thick leathery rind and aromatic light orange flesh that is virtually seedless.

The tree is characterized by moderate growth vigor, an upright habit, and a lack of thorns on thick branches, as well as large, broad leaves. The variety is demanding regarding growing conditions and is sensitive to heat and drought, yet it is characterized by high yield and the ability to maintain its marketability for several months.
