The name originates from the Cypriot dialect and is not an officially registered botanical variety. The plant is a local citrus landrace that is not the result of directed breeding.

The fruits are characterized by a very small size, fitting in the palm of the hand, and a pronounced sweet aromatic flavor. With regular pruning, the tree reaches a medium size. The produce is used primarily as table fruit for local consumption.
