The Tarocco variety group is an extensive family of clones, whose trees are usually medium or above-average in size, with vigorous growth, a spreading crown, and thorns on the branches. Maturity dates vary from mid-season to early-maturing, depending on the specific clone.

The fruits are often ribbed in shape or have a small neck at the base. The pulp is juicy, sweet, with a rich aroma and a good balance of sugar and acid. The degree of reddish pigmentation depends on the temperature fluctuations between day and night; seeds in the fruits are usually absent or present in small quantities.

The variety group is adapted to the Mediterranean climate and is used primarily for fresh consumption, as well as for culinary processing into desserts, sauces, and marmalades.
