The variety belongs to the historical Italian Femminello cultivar group. Clone M 84 was selected in 1955 during breeding work aimed at increasing resistance to the fungal disease mal secco. The variety possesses a certain degree of resistance to this infection, which, however, is not absolute.

The plant exhibits periodic fluctuations in yield from year to year and an overall fruiting efficiency inferior to a number of other lemon varieties. The fruits of the variety have a low pH value of about 2.40, which indicates high acidity. The essential oil content in the fruits is estimated as relatively low, with a minimal concentration of myrcene.
