The variety belongs to the Femminello group, common in Italy. The fruits have a thick rind and a low juice yield, which is approximately 22.3%. Plants of this clone feature in scientific papers on the reproductive biology of citrus, including studies on male sterility.

In agronomic studies, the M 503 clone is often considered in the context of assessing resistance to mal secco disease (Phoma tracheiphila), with plants showing signs of susceptibility to this pathogen. The variety is used in breeding centers to study fruit quality characteristics.
