The variety was developed at the Volcani Center in Israel by irradiating buds of the «Eureka» variety with gamma rays. The primary objective of the breeding was to obtain seedless fruits, which became the key distinctive feature of «GALYA» compared to the parent variety.
This variety is high-yielding. In scientific publications, it is often discussed alongside other seedless citrus varieties developed within similar breeding programs.
