The Karystino tree has no thorns. The variety is a genetically distinct local Greek landrace, adapted to regional climatic conditions and making up a significant part of Greece's lemon production.
The fruits are characterized by juiciness and a balanced combination of acidity and sweetness. The rind of the fruits is rough, of medium thickness. The variety is characterized by moderate resistance to root rot and belongs to late-maturing, while depending on conditions, the harvest may occur in the period from late autumn to July.
