A tree or shrub of medium vigor with thorny spines up to 4 cm and reddish young shoots. The leaves are large, pear-ovate, and bright green. The fragrant flowers have purple buds that open into white petals.
The fruits are large, reaching 20–30 cm in length, have a pear-ovoid shape, and a rough, bumpy rind that makes up to 70% of the volume. The variety is everbearing with a peak of productivity during spring flowering.
The albedo of the fruits has a sweet taste, while the pulp is sour. The plant is used as a fruit crop in cooking, a decorative potted plant, and as a rootstock for other citrus species.
