A medium-sized tree, 2 to 5 meters in height, with a spreading crown, thin drooping branches, and small thorns. Young shoots have a purple tint; leaves are dark green, resembling mandarin leaves. The flowers are small and fragrant, with a pronounced purple tint to the buds and petals.

Fruits are round or slightly flattened, with a diameter of about 5 cm. The rind is thin, orange or red-orange in color, and separates easily from the pulp. The pulp is also orange and is distinguished by high juiciness, a pronounced aroma, and high acidity.

Fruiting is abundant, with the main harvest ripening in winter and early spring. In global agriculture, it is widely used as a rootstock due to its resistance to the tristeza virus. There are numerous clonal forms of the plant that may differ in vigor and fruit appearance.
