Citrumelo is a hybrid of the 'Duncan' grapefruit and Poncirus trifoliata. The most well-known representative of the group is 'Swingle' (CPB 4475). The tree reaches 3–6 meters in height in open field conditions; the yellow fruits with a diameter of up to 10 cm have juicy but often sour-bitter pulp and are usually not consumed fresh.
The plant possesses high resistance to citrus tristeza virus, Phytophthora, and citrus nematode, and withstands temperature drops down to -12°C and lower. It tolerates various soil types well, with the exception of heavy clay, highly alkaline, and waterlogged soils. As a rootstock, it provides high yield and fruit quality for the scion, but requires verification of compatibility with specific citrus varieties.
