The variety has ancient origins from the Trabzon region in Turkey and belongs to the species Corylus pontica. The plant is a vigorous shrub with a spreading crown, reaching a height of 4–6 meters. The harvest matures in the second half of September.

The fruits have an elongated conical or cylindrical shape, are slightly flattened, and are distinguished by a thin shell and sweet kernel taste. The variety possesses sufficient winter hardiness, is relatively resistant to pests, and has moderate susceptibility to moniliosis.

The plant is cross-pollinating and requires the presence of other varieties for fruit set, while often acting as a pollinator itself for other hazelnut varieties. Various local forms or clones may be hidden under this name.
