Lusitanica, also known as Portuguese quince, is a variety of Cydonia oblonga. The plant is characterized by vigorous growth and broad leaves. The flowers are large, light pink in hue, and possess ornamental value.
The fruits have a pear-shaped, often ribbed form with a deep yellow pubescent skin. It belongs to early-ripening varieties. During the culinary process, the fruit pulp acquires a delicate pink-purple color, becomes soft, and loses its astringency.
A historic form originating from the Iberian Peninsula, valued as a table and industrial crop for processing. It is characterized by potentially lower winter hardiness compared to other quince forms.
