The M-C rootstock is dwarfing, ensures restricted tree vigor, and promotes early bearing of the scion in the second year after planting. The root system is characterized as superficial and weakly spreading.

The plant is sensitive to drought, low temperatures, and excess lime in the soil, which leads to a susceptibility to chlorosis. Good resistance to nematodes and soil fatigue is noted. Due to incompatibility with some pear varieties, it may require the use of an interstock.
