The variety belongs to the «Romaneschi» group and is a local population adapted to the climatic conditions of Southern Italy. In accordance with the classification of this group, the variety is characterized as late-maturing, with a harvesting period in the spring.
The plants are distinguished by the presence of anthocyanins, which result in a red hue of the inflorescences. The biochemical composition is characterized by a high content of phenolic compounds, in particular cynaropicrin and grosheimin. The variety is a subject of scientific research on the genetic diversity and nutraceutical properties of artichokes in the Campania region.
