The variety is tetraploid and belongs to a group of forage crops adapted to temperate climates with an early start of vegetation and late heading. Plants have a semi-erect growth habit after vernalization and dark or very dark leaf color.

In agricultural research, the variety was used in experiments studying pasture productivity, livestock grazing, and in grass mixtures with clover. This variety was evaluated in comparative studies of forage quality, nutritional value, and palatability for farm animals.
