The Maldo variety was bred in Denmark through selection from initial Danish and foreign material. In official documentation, the variety is classified as improved and belongs to forage crops intended for the establishment of pastures and hayfields.

As a representative of the meadow fescue species, the variety is a perennial loose-bunch grass. It is characterized by high winter hardiness, the ability to adapt to fertile and moist soils, as well as rapid regrowth after mowing.
