Violetta
ActiveFicus carica L. · Common fig
Plattner Anton
10 August 2026
The variety belongs to the Smyrna type, which means a mandatory need for caprification — pollination with wild fig pollen using the Blastophaga psenes wasp. Without this process, ovaries drop or dry out without reaching maturity. Trees have a semi-upright growth habit, the harvest ripens from August to mid-September, breba is usually absent.
Fruits are large, flattened in shape. Upon ripening, the skin changes color from bright green or yellowish to golden-brown, the flesh has an intensely red or pink color. The variety possesses a sweet, rich taste and is distinguished by delicate skin. The main purpose is the production of dried fruit; fruits are also consumed fresh.
