The Ikone variety is used as genetic material in breeding new barley varieties; in particular, it was involved in the creation of the KWS Meridian variety.
In a number of state registers, this variety was used as a reference during variety trials. In current lists, it is classified as historical or breeding material not intended for mass commercial production.
