The Prosa variety belongs to winter forms of common barley. For a long period, it was included in the official Austrian variety lists.

During phytopathological observations, the variety demonstrated susceptibility to powdery mildew. In scientific research, the variety was used as a reference to assess the impact of the pathogen Bipolaris sorokiniana on yield and sowing qualities of the grain.
