The variety was selected in Sweden through complex crosses of mutant lines. In 1981, it was approved for use, however, in the same year, it was removed from the register and withdrawn from circulation.

Detailed agronomic characteristics of the variety are absent in open sources. Mentions of Troja are found predominantly in scientific papers on the study of genetic diversity and in genetic resource databases.
