The barley variety TRON appears today more frequently in genetic databases, such as Nordic Baltic Genebanks, as breeding material under the number NGB 15262. In modern agronomic research, particularly within organic farming, it is used as a control object in studying plant resistance to pathogens.
The plant possesses a certain level of resistance to a number of cereal diseases. Studies record low susceptibility of this variety to leaf blotch, caused by the fungus Rhynchosporium secalis, as well as moderate susceptibility to ramularialeaf spot, caused by Ramularia collo-cygni.
