The Cityline® Rio ('Ragra') variety is a dwarf shrub 0.7–0.9 m tall with dark glossy foliage. The large inflorescences change color from blue to purple depending on soil acidity. The plant is characterized by strong stems and resistance to powdery mildew, and is suitable for container cultivation.

The panicle hydrangea variety 'Slootens Rio Grande' features large cone-shaped inflorescences. During flowering, they change color from white to shades of pink. This variety differs from the bigleaf hydrangea in its shrub type and flowering characteristics.
