The shrub is characterized by vertical growth with slight deflection of lateral shoots. Leaves are ovate, deep green, rough, and may acquire copper or dark purple tones in autumn.
Inflorescences are large, reaching 20–30 cm, and consist of a mixture of fertile and sterile flowers. The variety is distinguished by a very early onset of flowering, which can continue until autumn.
The plant possesses high winter hardiness (zone 4, down to -35 °C) and resistance to excess moisture. It prefers sunny locations or partial shade, as well as fertile, moist, drained soils.
