A compact shrub 80–100 cm in height, rarely up to 1.5 m, with a width of 60–80 cm. The leaves have a purple tint at a young age, turn green in summer, and acquire a purple color by autumn. Flowering is abundant and prolonged, lasting from June to September–October.
The inflorescences are flat in shape, white-pink upon opening, and darken to a raspberry color by the end of the season. In acidic soils, the flowers acquire a blue tint. The variety is winter hardy down to -25°C (zone 6) and is characterized by resistance to diseases and pests.
The plant is traditionally used for preparing the ritual sweet tea "amacha". In ornamental gardening, it is used in single and group plantings and is suitable for landscaping shaded areas.
