The variety is a hybrid between Hydrangea serrata and Hydrangea macrophylla, exhibiting characteristics of both species. The plant forms a compact spreading shrub 100–120 cm in height with a dense crown. The leaves are green, often with a reddish-purple tint, and have serrated edges.
Flowering is characterized by the appearance of medium-sized "mophead" type inflorescences. Throughout the season, the petal coloration changes from yellowish-green buds to soft pink, and at the end of the season becomes dark pink or raspberry red. The variety prefers partial shade and moist, well-drained soils.
The plant is used as a specimen plant, for group plantings, container cultivation, and landscaping. The inflorescences are suitable for cutting and drying. The name "Pink Beauty" may also be erroneously applied to other varieties of bigleaf hydrangea or other plant species, such as Potentilla fruticosa.
