Deciduous compact shrub, reaching 1 meter in height and width. Foliage is green, with serrated edges, and may take on reddish or orange shades in autumn. The variety is distinguished by double sterile flowers, the shape of the inflorescences varies from lace-cap to atypical spherical.

The color of the flowers depends on the soil acidity: in an acidic environment they acquire a blue or lavender-blue shade, in an alkaline one — pink or mauve-pink. Winter hardiness corresponds to USDA zones 5 through 9. The plant is used in ornamental gardening as a specimen plant, for borders, woodland gardens, and container landscaping.
