The plant is a compact upright deciduous shrub reaching a height of 1.0 to 1.2 m. The narrow-ovate dark green leaves acquire a characteristic purple hue in spring and autumn.

The lacecap inflorescences consist of white sterile flowers with a bright red margin and pinkish-white fertile flowers. The plant prefers partial shade and has a winter hardiness of approximately -18...-20°C.
