The Sweet Chris variety is a hybrid between Hydrangea macrophylla and Hydrangea serrata. In some sources, the plant is associated with the name Big Smile.
The inflorescences have the shape of a flat corymb. Fertile flowers in the center are colored in a saturated blue shade, and sterile marginal flowers possess a pink blush with blue centers. The intensity of the coloration depends on the soil pH level: in an acidic environment, blue and light blue tones predominate, while in neutral and alkaline environments, pink tones predominate.
The plant is a compact shrub resistant to adverse weather conditions.
