The Jaran variety is a representative of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum var. westerwoldicum). The crop is valued for its intensive growth rate and high productivity in the production of hay and silage.

The plant belongs to the tetraploid type. Morphologically, the variety is classified as having low tuft density. In the conditions of northern regions, the variety demonstrates a very high yield, however, it may show developmental instability depending on environmental factors.
