Magnolia 'Cleopatra' is a compact tree or large shrub with an upright crown. By 10–15 years of age, the plant reaches a height of 3.5–5 meters with a crown width of about 2 meters. The leaves are green and have an ovate or obovate shape.
The flowers are goblet-shaped, up to 18–20 cm in diameter, and have a complex amethyst-purple color with a blue tint and a metallic sheen. The petals are thick and resistant to weather conditions. Flowering begins in spring before or simultaneously with the leaf emergence; under favorable conditions, a second wave is possible at the end of summer.
The plant belongs to USDA hardiness zones 6–8 and withstands frosts down to -24...-28°C. The variety shows high resistance to powdery mildew. It prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations, protected from the wind, and well-drained moist soils with an acidic or slightly acidic reaction.
