The variety is an ancient representative of French cider apple trees, originating from the Somme department. The fruits ripen in the first half of October, are characterized by a conical or round shape, have a weight of about 50 g and a diameter of about 45 mm.

The taste qualities of the fruits are defined as extremely bitter with low acid content, a high level of tannins, and a sugar content of 15–17%. The variety is distinguished by good resistance to diseases, including scab, and is used in blends to add astringency to cider. The tree can also act as a pollinator.
