The name of the variety originates from the city of Ameria in the Umbria region, Italy. Mentions of this apple tree are contained in the works of ancient authors, including Pliny the Elder and Columella. In modern conditions, the variety is being studied as a specific genotype within the framework of programs for the conservation of cultivated plants.
