The variety was bred in 1909 by I. V. Michurin. The tree is characterized as strong and healthy, and is noted for early entry into the fruiting period. Frost resistance allows the variety to be grown in a wide range of climatic zones.

The fruits are similar in appearance to Antonovka Obyknovennaya, but possess a more pronounced red coloration. In terms of taste, they are sweeter and juicier, and are suitable for fresh consumption, culinary processing, making purees, and baking.
