The variety is a chance seedling discovered in 1850 in Germany. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and forms a wide, spreading crown. The variety is triploid, therefore it is not an effective pollen donor and requires the presence of pollinator varieties.
Fruits are medium to large in size, round-conical in shape, often ribbed. The ground color of the fruits is greenish-yellow with an intense red-orange blush on the sunny side. The flesh is yellowish-white, juicy, tender, and possesses a characteristic spicy aroma.
The variety is characterized by winter hardiness and good resistance to scab, however, it can be susceptible to powdery mildew, European canker on waterlogged soils, and bitter pit. The tree's flowers are sensitive to late spring frosts.
